Handheld Readout Unit
The SML010 can be used with the AMS-034 and other
sensors. It supplies battery power to the gauges and displays the
two sensor outputs on a two-line, front-panel LCD display, directly
in inches. Used with th AMS-Sensor 034, one output reads the real-time
gauge displacement/strain while the other indicates the peak displacement/strain
since the gauge was last reset.
An automatic "tare" function is provided
so the output readings can offset to zero prior to a test. The resolution
of the display is 0.0001". The absolute accuracy of the readout
is limited by the variation in sensitivity (calibration factor)
of the gauges.
The SML010 uses a typical value for this calibration
that is within 3% of the actual value for all gauges. For long-term
monitoring of displacement, one is usually only interested in relative
or percentage changes in displacement/strain.
In applications where absolute displacement accuracy
is important, the display reading can be easily converted to actual
displacement/starin using the calibration supplied with each gauge.
